I, Designer sans Mac, just invested in a Thinkpad T410.
Top reasons,

The Price
The Conformity
The Kool-aid
The fact I wouldn’t be able to run the games I make (w/o Bootcamp, et al.)

Bottom line is, I couldn’t see myself using one the way all the Macbook fans use one. That being said, I have nothing against advising you to get one if its for you. But its just not for me. (And as a bonus, any family members who plan to own a Macbook is out of my hands for debugging :D)
And thus, I remain Designer sans Mac.

A gift for a friend. Supersheep (from Worms) as interpreted by said friend: 4 shades of anti-pill fleece softness all around.

I plan to live alone this summer. This will be my first time going solo. I imagine it’ll be a pleasant experience… I’ll come home from work, and immerse myself with my paints. This is a dream I have yet to live, and I want to prove that it is indeed my dream.

On the weekends, I’ll aim to socialize, and see people.

On the weekdays, I’ll splatter paint on the canvas and walls. And, I’d imagine, if the landlord refuses to return my security deposit at the end of the summer, I would think to myself, It was well worth it.

Such is the dream.

If I ever think of a design as great as this, I’d switch back to sneakers.

if i could draw i would make shoes like this…

Lesson of the semester: Do NOT take 3 project intensive courses at once. Regardless, I still manage to find time to draw some pixel art for our semesterly indie game. This is the main menu; Mochicat will be released next Friday :)

First thing I did was follow the flow for Comic Sans.

Looking through old crafts, and memories, gives a peace of mind. I’m very adamant about creating the most personalized gift as possible.
One of my girl friends doodled this strange “cat faced banana” character constantly… And she had a collection of cute aprons. Worked out perfectly.
The design is made with brown, white polka-dotted cotton and white cotton sewn to ruffle trim. The 2 shades of slightly fuzzy yellow cotton is cut out to make a giant banana, which wraps around the wearer. Puffy paint is finally added to get a glassy, very cute cat face. There is also yellow puffy paint trim for banana peel detail. (Of course, I made sure none of the fabric was flammable…) And, props to Mom for doing the amazing sewing via industrial machine.
I love her (and all my friends’) reactions upon receiving these handmade things. Listening to my friends is the ultimate form of “listening to my users,” I guess.

Isn’t it weird how reliant we are on blogs and RSS feeds? Admittedly, I follow many of my favorite artists that way. If I like what I see, I just pop them into my Google Reader into my “Art” folder.
Today I came across Chihiro Iwasaki. The beautiful, simple, and lively watercolours captured my heart. I had a tough time picking just one to feature in this post. (Though, a simple image search would bring you to more wonder!)
It makes me think about all the artist out there, not the ones you find in textbooks, who carry this kind of talent. Living or legend, as the y-generation, I felt like we’ve become so reliant on these means to discover new things.
It’s rather parallel to the way that time, energy, and resources limits the execution of our creativity. Sure, our creativity itself is boundless.. but we will never be capable of sharing every bit of it. In the same way, knowledge is boundless.. but we gravitate to the outlets which are most familiar and easy to use.

New set on Flickr! Just some better shots of the Bravo! Spring Flowers exhibit at Phipps Conservatory. Happy, pretty blooms.

Begin, the style emulation sketch series. Inspired by blow at life’s human-like figures. Notes: progress update, stress relief, one day I’ll scan all these finished watercolors…

Raincat reloaded, the watercolor. This is a scan of the progression. Hopefully I’ll get around to scanning all the new and completed pieces in my watercolor sketchbooks including this one! P.S. Raincat is a playable game :)

I’m back; lately I’ve been binge painting… Here is some realism: a portrait of a geek.

Hello Everyone

The first time I post without a piece: I’m taking a hopefully short hiatus from blogging my sketches. Some rude awakenings have happened, and it’s throwing me into deep reevaluation. Thank you my few visitors, especially those who have followed, liked, and reblogged my pieces. I will definitely be back at some point as art+design is something I’ll never give up. —Susan

Tree. Found this unfinished color pencil sketch and my Prismas… then I took them to town. Summer is my favorite.

“Sketch” is pushing it, but I did arrange the blueberries. Well arranged food somehow makes already great food taste better.
Coming home after going away for college has its perks.
