Looking through old crafts, and memories, gives a peace of mind. I’m very adamant about creating the most personalized gift as possible.
One of my girl friends doodled this strange “cat faced banana” character constantly… And she had a collection of cute aprons. Worked out perfectly.
The design is made with brown, white polka-dotted cotton and white cotton sewn to ruffle trim. The 2 shades of slightly fuzzy yellow cotton is cut out to make a giant banana, which wraps around the wearer. Puffy paint is finally added to get a glassy, very cute cat face. There is also yellow puffy paint trim for banana peel detail. (Of course, I made sure none of the fabric was flammable…) And, props to Mom for doing the amazing sewing via industrial machine.
I love her (and all my friends’) reactions upon receiving these handmade things. Listening to my friends is the ultimate form of “listening to my users,” I guess.

If you haven’t noticed, my paper prototype was sitting on a colored pen sketch. I uncovered a few drawings from last year which I never shared. Here is my favorite of the bunch, Set me Free. Quick sketches have a sort of distinct, alluring energy.
