My good friend Sunny gifted me a Pencil tonight! So, what did I spend 2 hours doing? A redux of my most popular old drawing from almost 2 years ago, Moonlit Music:

Back then, Paper came with an oekaki styled limited color palette. Today it’s blending like crazy, zooming into the details, and bumping up the saturation on parts… Good times. A ton of old Paper sketches are filed under #MadeWithPaper

I’ve drawn things like this in the past, but I always love the red balloons in the blue sky with the perfect clouds.

Documenting the Dust Bunnies game, ch 1.

I’ve got my idea. Now it’s all about the execution.

Dust-blobs-without Dust-blobs-with

Since I’m not a strong coder, I’ve decided to make this a grid-based game, which should immensely simplify the game mechanics and logic magic that needs to happen on the backside.

This way, I can focus on the front - my strength. This might put the game on the map, despite the simplicity of the components.

At any rate, this should be a great kick-off type project. ETA? Let’s say June 2012 for now. Heh.

In case of creative stagnation, draw fanart. Shiny, shiny fanart.

Sidenote: I actually do think Adventure Time is quality stuff.

Photoshop Painting! > Out of Tune Squeaky Toy

LOOK GUYS I CAN STILL COLOR OKAY. LIGHTING AND COLORS AND STUFF.

Also, this is pretty much true. I do, in fact, sing like an out of tune squeaky toy, except in the shower. Good thing he sings like a god :)

Some Ghibli Love. More in this style because it’s fun.

Not gonna lie, I do miss drawing manga-style sometimes.Drawing Binge!
My thought process went something like this…
Man, this fanart sucks. I could do better.
Bust open Photoshop.
Anatomy, what.
2 hours later… No, I’m really rusty and can’t do better (for now!)
Something about inhabiting the room which I spent my teenage years prompts me to draw manga style like old times.

[Fashion Sketch] Less than 2 years ago, I picked up my first suit. Now, I have an ample selection of things to mix and match… So, I don’t even wear the complete suit outfit anyway!
It’s been interview-mania lately. Still working on the “dream job” thing…
This mini-series was inspired by The Sea of Fertility (http://www.xiaoxizhang.com/). Love her sense of style, and drawings.

The full assortment of backgrounds originally illustrated in Photoshop for Raincat. Only the third (happy blue sky) made it into the game.
After experiencing the joys (and pains) of full on projects, one will learn that design decisions to cut out content that is not ultimately suited is necessary to crafting the best possible product.
Originally, our idea was to include a narrative where raincat escapes from a basement and proceeds to a world with clear blue skies. However, our game evolved throughout development rendering the other backgrounds unsuitable.
Admittedly, the first few times this happened, I was upset that my hard work would not be shown in the final product. Of course, after a few rounds, it’s easy to see that it’s for the best. And, your hard work isn’t really lost. #lifelesson
